So my friend has been holding so many KFC dinners (Korean Fried Chicken) and we have been running around town looking for the best possible KFC we can find. This might be it.
Cheers Chicken and Beers already has a decent name so that's a good start. But it's more than just a name. First off, the place is rather small and very easy to drive by, but it's located in the same plaza as the Shopper's Drug Mart on Yonge and Finch. If you're looking to go in a large group, make reservations in advance people.
The menu has all sorts of different KFC like Sweet, Spicy, Soy, and Crispy Original. Everything looked so good so it made it hard to decide what to get. You can also order them as half order or a full order. We just couldn't decide.
So we got it all...
Four Full Orders of Korean Fried Chicken. Starting off with the Original Crispy Chicken...the chicken was fantastic. The skin was crunchy without being heavily battered. Encrusted within that skin was a tender juicy chicken that comes piping hot, so watch that steam before you bite into it.
The Sweet Chicken was OK. I thought the sauce was heavy (though still better than some places I've been to). When I think of Korean Fried Chicken, I'll always think about how thick the sauce can be so this is the perfect example of that.
The Spicy Chicken was exactly that. Spicy as f***. This one was a bit different from the others because we got this order boneless. The first bite had a nice sweet tinge before the heat just bites you in the mouth.
The Soy Chicken was another amazing choice. Their soy sauce is lightly seasoned with probably a bit of sugar to kick up the sweetness. The sauce is thin and I enjoyed that because the others were thick and heavily layered on. I thought this was the best one and easily my favorite. Light enough flavor without overwhelming the chicken underneath.
Service was a bit rough at the beginning, but went a lot smoother as the night progressed (she was the only one there managing the entire place, so she definitely did a great job). The food is amazing and the prices, though a bit steep, are well-deserved for the chicken. This place is still rather new so come out and give it a try. There is free parking after 6pm on the street that the restaurant faces so be on the lookout. Otherwise, it's pretty close to the Yonge/Finch Station.
