Chick-In is a small Taiwanese chicken shop in this plaza by Langham Square in Markham. The place offers up Taiwanese meals and their popular Yansu chicken, which is basically their version of popcorn chicken that is cooked with a lighter starch as its batter. The place here looks small but is more narrow and long, so it can actually sit a bigger number of people than originally anticipated. Other than the chicken, they do offer Taiwanese fast food meals and drinks (bubble tea, slushs, etc).

I ordered their Yansu chicken combo with beef balls and "fish sticks". The combo also includes steamed white rice with minced pork sauce and a drink. I got the oolong tea because I just needed something refreshing without being overly sweet.

The Oolong tea was exactly how I needed it to be on this hot day in Toronto. It was cool, icy, and not very bitter at all. I had them add a bit of sugar but it was what I (and my liver) needed.

Now about the meal... the Yansu chicken was pretty solid. I enjoyed the lighter batter as I wasn't looking for half batter, half chicken. The chicken was coated very lightly and deep fried. The chicken thigh pieces were juciy little morsels that had some fat still attached, but definitely nice flavoring. Could have used more spices, but good for the chicken purists out there. The beef balls were also fried, not grilled. I didn't enjoy the beef balls too much, but I did grow up eating them so nostalgia helped a bit. The surimi sticks that I also ordered were fine. Nothing of note.

The place is ideal Taiwanese fast food as you're pretty much in and out. I came for a late lunch so the place was rather empty, but I've heard this restaurant can get packed as the day lingers on. The service was meh. They did their job so no complaints, but I don't even think they talked. It was more just me pointing at what I wanted and them bringing it (which is completely fine for my introverted self). Worth checking out the chicken at this place, but everything else seems a bit lackluster.
