So after a long day at Canada Wonderland (made even longer by a trip to Vaughan Mills), we decided to get some pho around these plazas. There are so many damn Viet restaurants in these plazas, that we stopped at the place that looked to be the most unique. In comes Ox Noodle, which is a mix of Chinese and Vietnamese. The menu is rather small and focuses strictly on the pho noodle soup.
I Ordered the Pho and Drink combo (I needed something cold on this hot day). The menu is pretty cool as you can customize your pho to however you like. You can pick the broth (beef or chicken), noodles (rice or vermicelli noodle), vegetables, and a number of toppings. I had rare beef and well done beef in my soup. You can also get toppings like chicken, pork, fish balls, beef balls, imitation crab meat, dumplings and others.
The pho is done very well. Not overly salty, which is good because you can always add however much you want. The broth also had a very good beefy flavor to it. The rare beef was tossed into the broth (I like that), and cooked quickly in the steaming hot bowl. The well done beef was disappointing as it was way too thin and crumpled under the chopsticks. The pho was still good despite that.
You can also choose to add skewers if you like. They have skewers like chicken wing, beef, pork, lamb, etc. They also have some kidneys and hearts if you so choose. I just got one lamb skewer, but it was actually incredible. The lamb was tender, smoky, and had a nice hint of cumin and sweet marinade.
The place is pretty tiny and it seems to be family run (small Chinese family). The service here is friendly and fast. The prices are pretty standard and portion sizes aren't any issue. I would come back to try some other items. They seem to be popular for their fresh ground coffee, so probably a mistake on my part to not give it a try. Their skewers are definitely a big draw as well. Will be back.
