I don't have words for Darband. The food speaks for itself. This little Persian place is tucked in a tiny plaza with a Subway and is next door neighbors with some fake Chinese restaurant. Don't be fooled by the surroundings, though. Despite how crappy the place looks from the outside, the food inside will have you coming back time and time again.
The restaurant is open 24 hours a day so I don't know what kind of shit goes down at 3am at a place like this, but during the day? It's semi busy for lunch and it's a damn shame that people are going to eat at other places in this plaza and ignoring this absolute gem.
Whenever I go to Persian restaurants, I would like to try so many different things. But I don't. I get the same damn thing every time. Chicken Leg skewers vaziri. It's an addiction. I can't break the habit. So obviously, on the several times I've been to this place, I order the same thing.
My friend also introduced us to Kashk Bademjan, which is a puree of fried eggplant mixed with spices and onion. That appetizer can act as a meal alone. This eggplant dip is so rich and creamy. It maintains the perfect balancing act of being spiced mildly, while also being completely heavy and flavorful. The eggplant flavor comes to the forefront but is accentuated with the use of mint, whey, and onion. Every table comes with pita bread so feel free to use that as your vessel.
My main course is the Vaziri Leg combo that comes with chicken leg skewer, koobideh skewer, and saffron rice (oh and a grilled tomato for good measure). That chicken leg skewer is cooked so beautifully. It's rich, tender, and juicy. I know a lot of people write that, but honestly, this chicken is living proof that chicken dark meat will smoke white meat in taste and texture. The meat was so tender, I had to double check to make it sure it was even cooked (it was). The charcoal flavor is hinted but doesn't obscure the chicken. The koobideh is whatever. People like it, but I'm honestly not the biggest fan. The rice is done well as it's salted and oiled nicely, with quite a bit of fluffiness.
Disclaimer: The parking here is fucked. There are spots that are adjacent to each other that have no busy being there. God forbid two cars try to leave at the same time. It's cramped so watch out. Service here is great. Doesn't hurt that I had a Persian coworker with me both times. Place is open 24 hours a day so if you get that late night craving that sex can't satisfy, just grab a kebab.
