Tastee Bakery is this small little bakery (though not so small inside) that is camouflaged amongst all these industrial buildings. They are a popular chain that is sold across all of the GTA. This brick and mortar bakery (and attached store) offers up Jamaican food like Jerk Pork and Jamaican Patties. Also offers Western staples like breakfast sandwiches (served til 3pm!) and burgers. Decent sized dining area and fresh baked bread as well.
The Jerk Pork Sandwich ($4.95) is mainly what the review is based on. They grab their coco bread that's baked in house and load it up with forkful after forkful of jerk rubbed, and tender pork shoulder. The pork meat portion was healthy and they really load you up. They also throw a ladleful of gravy on top. The pork was tender and the meat tears apart in your mouth, but I thought the taste was bland. Definitely needed more seasoning and didn't get it. The gravy was just as bland and added nothing but moisture to the sandwich. I also got an order of fries ($2.25) to go with the sandwich. Decent fries. Nothing to write home about.
I did really like their beef patties though. There was also no way I was going to leave without grabbing a Jamaican Patty. There are about 4-5 varying degrees of heat, but I opted with the Regular Spicy. Not really a kick at all, so if you want spicy, go for the hottest. The crust was flaky and the filling was good.
It seems to be a favorite lunch spot for folks around the area. The parking lot was full despite there being a good amount of spots. The place is huge inside so no worries finding seats. Food is prepared early and is served from a hot counter. Decent cheap food (lunch cost me less than $10) and serviceable for the area, but much better jerk to be had if you drive a bit further out.
