Good Catch Boil House is a new seafood boil restaurant in Downtown Markham around Birchmount and Hwy 7. The place itself is located by the Cineplex Markham Theatre and is HUGE. These seafood boil places are popping up all over the city and there is a huge boom for it right now. However, the big differentiator here is the rather diverse menu and giant sports bar feel behind it.
I have had a number of items at Good Catch. Because they have more than just boiled seafood, we had to order a bunch of items and still not have everything we wanted. The Good Catch Slaw is a replica of the Singaporean slaw that is a famous dish at Susur Lee's restaurants. The slaw here is OK. They do a good job with balancing the delicate flavors from each ingredient, but the mash up of it doesn't work out as well, even with the sweet dressing added.
They have 2 variations of Lobster Rolls. The cold version is served with a sweet mayo and chives. The portion is no issue and the roll comes buttery and toasted. The same can go for the hot lobster roll (my preference). Chunks of lobster meat dunked in butter and served on the same buttery roll.
As for their boiled items, they really excelled here. The whole boiled seafood is growing in the GTA so it can be a bit tiresome to eat, but their selections are rather good. The Dungeness Crab is a huge win as the crab legs are huge and the meat is so plump and not dried out. The curry sauce is addictive and begs to be served with rice or some other starch. The shrimp was good. Standard but the portion size was rather large. Maybe I'm underestimating how much a pound of shrimp really is?
Other items like their Mussels and Snow Crab Legs were just as good. The Mussels were my favorite and I'm telling you now, I don't like mussels much. They were giant mussels that were meaty, yet so tasty. Loved the garlic butter sauce so much that you could drink it. The snow crab legs are good, but a bit pricier than I'd like for the meat ratio.
Service is absolutely stellar. The servers, besides looking being easy on the eyes, are super friendly and helpful. They tell stories, jokes, and seemed completely genuine which rather than that feigned attempt at being nice. Really shows. The prices are fairly standard, but portion sizes are good, as is the food. Worth coming over again, even if you don't want any seafood boil.
