Home of Hot Taste is this small Korean Fried Chicken place that has a reputation for being one of the best places to get KFC, but it was a bit lackluster. The restaurant itself is located close to Yonge and Bloor and is right across the street from the Toronto Hemp Company....
I went with a larger group so I was able to see (and taste) a wide variety of items. I, myself, ordered original chicken wings with fried rice and split an order of teriyaki garlic wings. The chicken wings themselves were not very good, though the skin was crisp. The chicken pieces were tiny and the taste was a bit off. The fried rice is pretty much fried garlic sticky rice, and though oily, wasn't so bad.
The sauced chicken was actually better. The teriyaki garlic chicken (Small - $6.99) was pretty good. The sauce was thin and so it didn't adhere to the chicken like glue. The chicken pieces remained crisp and the sauce was light enough to season the chicken without it feeling like I was drinking it.
I saw other dishes, like the Green Onion Chicken and Spicy Fried Chicken, that looked way too over-sauced. Looked as though a dumptruck dropped sauce all over the dishes and the servers just brought it out to my party. The taste was there, but there was essentially a pool of sauce where you could take a swim if you wanted to.
Service was bad and though larger groups can always be a bit troublesome, they messed up on some orders and didn't really try to get anything resolved. Even when they messed up, they didn't apologize or try to correct their mistake. What? They need to pick it up a bit cause I didn't think the food was bad. Not sure if management has changed or anything but I guess I just had higher expectations.
