Iqbal Kebab is a small hidden restaurant located on Forest Hill right next to the Foodland supermarket. The place itself is rather small and is divided by just the kitchen/hot table counter and the dining room. We came during lunch and they have specials plastered on the wall as well as a dining room menu. They are focused around Middle Eastern cuisine with some Indian influence as well.

My friends came specifically for their lunch Thali, which came with their choice of three different items and a varied number of sides. I didn’t pay too much attention, but it looked good. They had chickpea curry, butter chicken, and another curry of which I don’t recall. It also comes with naan, rice, and a single kebab. This was all for just a bit over $13-15. Not bad for value. The other items were overpriced for such a small place though.

I opted for the Chicken Biryani (bone-in - $5.99). The bone in option is because I think bone in chicken just simply tastes better and it was cheaper by like half the price! The platter was large when it came out. Not sure how I was able to defeat it, but I did. The biryani rice was spiced well and the rice was fluffy. The chicken pieces were decent enough. Not the greatest as it’s just something anyone can make. The rice is the key and they did it fine.

I also got a beef samosa for good measure. Crunchy with some good filling inside. Very greasy though, but just a factor of being pulled right out of the deep fryer, so need to knock it much. They are a bit pricier than many of these smaller places offer at around $1.50, but still cheap nonetheless.

It’s a pretty small place that must be busier during the lunch rush. We came a bit off-hours so it was dead. The staff was quiet and so it felt more like an awkward late lunch but it was fine with some friends. Not sure if I’d come back as there are much better places (cleaner too), but because there isn’t much in the surrounding plaza, you might be stuck.
