Mean Bao is a fast food joint that offers up dim sum. They actually have several locations. This one in particular is rather small and dingy. The place itself is quite popular and the menu, which hangs on the wall, offers up a variety of steamed baos and some dim sum items.
I have a deep love for shrimp dumplings (har gow), so I know I had to have an order. And being that the place is called Mean Bao, I had to buy a bao right? I got the pork belly bao as it also appears to be their most popular. You can also choose a spice level as well.
I'll start with the shrimp dumplings. Theywere disappointing. Small shrimps stuffed into the har gow skin, which didn't taste the greatest. They were tiny and though it was firm to hold with the chopsticks, they barely had any good flavor. Definitely need to stick with the baos.
The pork belly bao was good. I really enjoyed the nice tender piece of pork belly with a good amount of hoisin and sriracha. The bao was good, but a bit stale. Still served warm so can't complain.
They've got several locations scattered across the Downtown core. Being that it's fast food dim sum, it is exciting that they are popular. However, with the prices being what they are and the food being somewhat subpar, I'll hold out for better.
