What the hell is Beijing Fried Chicken?
When I saw this posted on the wall, I had to stop and go in. Had to. Mr Six Fried Chicken is a new chicken spot located near Midland and Finch. The place is so tiny but they still managed to sneak in a few tables and even a booth. It looks more like a Krispys or another one of those small fried chicken joints.
The menu is pretty small and is exclusively chicken (I don't even seeing sides to be honest, though I'm sure there is). They have everything from their standard Beijing Style Fried Chicken to tenders, nuggets, and a giant fried chicken sandwich.
I wanted to get them all, but I settled for a 2 piece of chicken (mainly cause I was having dinner in less than an hour). The chicken comes out fast and hot. They also give you a pair of gloves which is ideal for eating fried chicken. More places definitely need to start doing this. The skin was very crisp and the spices used were very familiar. It tasted similar to a Chinese five spice but a bit more salty. The chicken was juicy inside while the skin was very crunchy. I think it compares exactly to a Krispys Kajun Chicken but with five spice flavors.
I would love to come back and give their "popcorn chicken" a shot. The menu is rather small and it looks like the Asian version of Popeyes, minus all the good sides. Hopefully this place sticks around a bit longer as it is hard to find a place that just does fried chicken an Asian way.
