MyMy Chicken is a new Korean Fried Chicken joint that opened up in, you guessed it, Koreatown North (Yonge Sheppard-Finch). The place itself is a fried chicken chain that comes from South Korea and this is their first North American venue. The place is much larger inside that it appears outside. It's got a trendy bar feel to it and focuses almost exclusively on Korean Fried Chicken. The prices are higher than other KFC places and they actually don't appear to do half chickens so come hungry or bring a group.
Our group of 5 ordered 3 whole chickens (roughly $25-28 each). Our flavor choices were Half Original, Half Spicy, Honey Soy Garlic, and their Retro.
The Original Fried is their standard and comes piping hot and crunchy. The batter is rather thick, but beneath it lies some juicy chicken that is steaming hot. The batter had good flavor, but the chicken needed a bit more spice to it.
The Spicy is their sauced up version of the Original Fried. They did quite a number on the sauce as it was heavily coated, but the sauce was tasty. It did lack any real kick though as it wasn't very spicy was more sweet than anything.
The Honey Garlic Soy was another sauced up version but with a much more sweeter, lighter colored, sauced. The pieces of chicken were very sticky and the sauce was also coated on most of the pieces. This flavor also comes with some pieces of fried rice cakes and what appeared to be eggplant?
The Retro style was the flavor that had me most excited because the picture looked identical to Korean Fried Chicken chains like Kyochon and NY Style Turntable Chicken Jazz, but unfortunately, it just appeared to be a more lightly battered original fried. The batter was still present despite how naked it looks in pictures. It was still actually my favorite though because of the lighter batter and more chicken.
Service was excellent as the guy was attentive, accommodating, and friendly (not the most common in these KFC restaurants). The place is already quite popular as there were large groups of people packed into it on a Thurs night. The food can take a bit of time to come out so don't expect anything fast. Just grab a beer and enjoy the company of the people you're with (that includes if you're by yourself). The food is good albeit expensive. Would definitely come back though.
