People I've talked to love this place. Ehh...it's mediocre at best.

Not sure if Pho 88 is a chain restaurant as it has locations pretty much everywhere. (Many Viet restaurants just names themselves "Pho (Insert Number)" anyways) The place itself is located in a small strip mall where the Foody Mart is. Because of the Foody Mart, you have the incredibly clogged traffic coming in and out of the Bambaugh Circle, so parking can sometimes be a pain. The interior is made to squeeze as many people in as possible. Menu is big and offers up all the Viet staples, but with more Chinese influence.

Started off with Grilled Chicken Fresh Rolls and Fried Chicken Wings. The grilled chicken summer rolls is a lot of roll and not much chicken. There is lots of lettuce, small pieces of chicken, and barely any noodles (not even sure if there are supposed to be noodles). The fried chicken wings were also a lackluster dish. Very dry and not well seasoned enough.

I ordered the Grilled Pork and Grilled Chicken on Rice platter. This is a staple of mine and this place does it OK enough. The grilled pork chop (bone in) was normal sized, neither big nor small. The taste is standard, but still pretty good with the chargrilled taste. The grilled chicken was decent but skin was so flabby that it's pretty much inedible. The rice portion was large but so soggy. It also comes with your typical salad of pickled veggies that have no flavor.

The wife ordered the Special Pho. This big bowl comes with rare beef, well-done beef, brisket, tripe, and beef balls. Pho is composed of 3 important components - broth, beef, and noodles. All 3 were mediocre or just OK. The broth was rich and tasty, though a bit oily. The beef was OK. Nothing was special at all. The noodles were good and there was plenty of it.

Overall, it's a standard Vietnamese restaurant. The service is all about efficiency and turnover. Everything is quick, which can be nice, but we felt a bit rushed. Environment was a bit dirty as well. This place has potential to be so much better. Though the serving size is large, I can't imagine it tasting that much better than other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Price is comparable, so I'm saying that this place is just subpar in my book.
