Nice little Northern style Chinese bun restaurant by Midland and Finch. The place is tiny and is surrounded by some big name places, but I'm sure they get their regulars. They serve primarily steamed buns with some dumplings and soups to complement. The place is tiny on the inside and feel like somebody's house more than an actual restaurant.
We ordered their special steamed buns, shredded potato, pork and cabbage side, and hot soy milk. The special steamed buns were mediocre in my mind but I felt as though it's because they gave us a batch that was already made. It's filled with grounded beef that was seasoned with house spices.
The other dishes were much better. The shredded potato with light chili oil was done very well as was the pork belly with cabbage. For a pork belly dish, there were thin slices that made it feel light and the cabbage was tender. Nice flavour in the dish. The hot soy milk is one of the better ones I've had in Toronto. Tastes freshly made and is a bit richer and thicker than others.
The place feels like China. Weird nostalgic feeling as the ambiance of the place and the lack of English anywhere kind of makes me feel as though I transported back to China. Worth a visit if you like Northern breakfast foods.
