School is a sweet little restaurant in Liberty Village that is most renowned for their brunch. It's a cool hip place that offers up a wide variety of dishes like chicken and waffles, pancakes, and french toast. Their pancakes are supposedly one of the best in all of Toronto, so we had to check it out.
I had the chicken and waffles as my meal. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffles are 3-4 boneless pieces of chicken that is lightly battered but very crisp. They nestle atop quartered waffle segments that are very soft and fluffy (which is actually how I prefer my waffles - over the crisp kind). The chicken was piping hot and had good seasoning. The dish comes with a side of hot honey syrup to dip or drizzle over your plate. Brown Sugar Butter is also available to spread over the waffle.
The wife ordered their popular "Black N Blue" Flapjacks. A mountain high stack of fluffy pancakes that are topped with a heavy dosage of blueberry and blackberry sauce. The sauce they pour over the pancakes is plenty for any fruit lover. You get a lot of the whipped cream to add to the dish as well. Perfectly fluffy pancakes are what really make this dish one of their best.
The place itself has some pretty cool decor and a very nice patio to match their interior. The service is on point, and while many places are understaffed, these guys had the opposite problem (which is good for us). Parking can be found across the street in a lot. Or on the street. Or some free parking just a block north. Definitely worth making a stop to for anyone who loves Brunch.
