Silver Star BBQ is a brand new Northern style Chinese restaurant that opened up where the old Chinese Halal restaurant used to be. The menu offers Northern classics like lamb kebabs, noodle soups, and a multitude of spicy dishes. The place is real nice and much cleaner than most of the other places you'll find around.
We ordered lamb, beef, and shrimp kebabs. The grilled meats were so juicy and tender, while they are smaller chunks so it's easier to eat. Both the lamb and the beef are perfectly cooked while there is a decent enough amount of fat to add to the flavor. I do think they go a bit overboard with the cumin though. The Chinese cabbage is spiced nicely and has a bit of kick to it as well. It is very soft when it comes off the skewers but still maintains a bit of crunch.
Duck Noodle soup was so damn aromatic. I was already salivating just smelling the broth. The duck meat is meh as it is mainly bones and smaller chunks used just to season the broth. The noodles were soft, but I still really enjoyed it.
Also ordered spicy clams ($8.99) and they were so damn good. These might be my favorite clams in the GTA. The sauce is what really makes it because it's both savory and spicy. The clams aren't the largest, but they were tasty. The sauce definitely has a bit of kick with the high number of peppers, chilis, and bamboo slices.
The food was great and the prices are pretty fair, especially with the larger portion sizes. The restaurant is clean and service was fast and painless. Definitely worth stopping by as they will also accommodate larger groups too.
