The Lobster Place
The Lobster Place

One of the spots we had to visit in NYC was the Chelsea Market in the Meatpacking District. This place is every foodies dream and they seem to have anything for everyone. The place that we wanted to try the most though, was the Lobster Place (and the C&P Galley).
The Lobster Place is a seafood market within a market. They had fresh seafood from all kinds ranging from fish and shellfish to sushi and other raw items. There were lots of ready-to-eat options and they even have some stations designed specifically for food. (They have a lobster "shack" in the back corner).
The C&P Galley is their little food shack that sells cold and hot sandwiches, to go along with a large soup station. We ordered a lobster roll and a lump crab roll. The lobster roll is a cold one and the lobster meat is all over. I hate shredded lobster meat (and places actually sell this!) in my lobster roll and it's always a pleasure to have the fat chunks such as this one. The mayo and celery mixture was a bit much as I like it a bit lighter to focus more on the lobster taste, but still good.
Did not really enjoy the lump crab roll so much. Another cold sandwich, it was more like shredded crab than giant chunks of lump crab. Aesthetically, it almost looks like imitation crab meat. Tastewise, you can tell it was genuine crab but still being masked a bit by the same celery mayo mix that they use for the lobster roll. Worked a lot better on the lobster roll.
Other than the Galley, you can order fresh steamed lobsters from the back corner. There were so many people in line for that. We opted to go the raw bar and grab some oysters. We tried several from the East Coast off New Jersey and Massachusetts. Both were medium sized and on the sweeter side. The condiments are there for you right at the bar too.
This market has so many other things like crab claws, sushi bar, fresh fish, etc. It's a seafood paradise and they have lots of goodies. The sandwiches weren't exactly what we were hoping for, but everything else looked so good (oysters were amazing). The service is uber friendly and lineups, though long, go by very quickly.
