Reading Terminal Market

Tommy DiNic's is a very popular sandwich shop right in the heart of the Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia. The cheesesteak is the most iconic sandwich that Philly has to offer, but this sandwich was apparently something that was even better? I wanted to sink my teeth into one since watching all those Travel Channel and Food Network shows. It was even voted the best sandwich on one particular show. All that being said, expectations were high.
Counter space is rather limited as it is a very popular lunch spot for many in the city. The whole Reading Market is busy, but so many come to DiNics. Ordered up their famous Roast Pork Sandwich. The sandwich is a combination of slow roasted pork that's thinly sliced and topped with broccoli rabe and sharp hand cut provolone.
I really enjoyed the bitterness and the crunch of the broccoli rabe with the savory provolone, but that was pretty much the lingering taste. Those two completely overshadow the roasted pork, which I thought was rather bland. You would think that by dipping the meat into the jus of the pork, that there would be a stronger flavor, but it wasn't. There was quite a bit of meat too, and if you took bites of it on its own, then you get a pretty mild pork flavor that was somewhat tasty, but doesn't work in this sandwich. Not only did the juice dipping not help the flavor, it will make the bread soggy as well. The individual ingredients were good on their own, but the combination were fighting over ownership of the taste buds and don't work together at all.
I love and eat my fair share of sandwiches so it was a bit disappointing for sure. The service is lackluster as they really are there to just throw a sandwich down in front of you and go back to doing their own thing (I know they're not there to entertain, but I felt more like an inconvenience than a customer).
