I really enjoyed Xawaash. Even the story behind how a husband/wife blogging combo realized their dream and started a restaurant adds a bit to it as well. But what it comes down to is the food and they didn't disappoint. This restaurant here is rather large inside and is a bit reminiscent of Paramount Fine Foods (while ago) with a small family owned feel. Menu offers lots of Somalian/Middle Eastern classics that are all Halal.
I've had the Chicken Shawarma Plate with Half Rice and Half Fries ($10.99) and its probably my favorite. This time around, I ordered the chicken kebab platter ($13.98) with half pasta and half fries. Also got a beef samosa ($1) for good measure.
The chicken shawarma was great. Nice juicy cuts of chicken shawarma that piled high atop my aromatic rice and crispy fries. It was drizzled with hot sauce and tahini as well. The combination of it all led to some amazing little mouthfuls of flavor with every bite. The chicken kebab is smaller than I remembered from before, but it still tasted good. The seasoning was done just right and it helps that I had a carbo overload with a half pasta and half fries combination. The pasta is so good. Little bits of beef and perfect sauce/pasta combination (at least the way I like it!). Even the salad was good.
The beef samosa was done well too as it had a crisp batter and a good amount of ground beef inside. It reminded me of a Chinese egg roll more than an Indian samosa. The batter was crisp and bubbly while the filling had a nice steamed and soft interior.
The servers were friendly and the food was tasty. They make it rather quick too so our lunch wasn't dragged out. I also really liked the layout of the place and was so impressed by the comfortable seating and the fact that they have personal touch TVs at every table where you can watch hockey/football highlights!! Sports bars should be doing this. Didn't expect it from a Middle Eastern restaurant, especially one as good as this was...
