Yuzu No Hana is a small sushi bar/ izakaya on Adelaide St by Duncan. The place itself is rather cozy and not as big as many of the other places around (and definitely not as loud). The menu here focuses mainly on sushi with some Japanese kitchen items as well. The interior is very nice and it is a good stop over from the orchestra despite all the food options in the area.
We ordered the Chef's Sushi Plate ($30), Waafu steak ($26), Seafood Udon, and an extra plate of seared tuna belly nigiri ($7). The Chef's sushi plate consists of 12 pieces of chef's choice sushi and 3 maki pieces. Some of the notables were red tuna, salmon, seared eel, uni, and scallop (though you should expect this to change depending on season and night).
The waafu steak is a nice cut of steak that they prepare sliced already for you so that you don't need a knife and fork (chopsticks are going to be just fine). The steak flavor was great and enhanced by a light sweet sauce as well. The seafood udon had a couple of large shrimp, mussels, fish, crabmeat, etc. The broth was very flavorful and aromatic, while the udon noodles were done a perfect al dente so they maintained their texture without getting mushy.
The service here is stellar as they are friendly and prompt. Don't expect anyone to yell to greet you or anything. Just real unassuming and a nice intimate place for a date. They have an omakase that might be worth a try, but are required to call a day in advance for.
